FAQ

Questions, answered

The things brands ask us most about custom decorative tins — order quantities, food safety, artwork and shipping.

Orders & quantities

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?+

For custom offset-printed tins the typical range is about 5,000–25,000 pieces per design — larger tins sit nearer 5,000, smaller tins nearer 25,000. Printing plates, press setup and any new mould are fixed costs spread across the run, so a minimum keeps the per-unit price sensible. Need fewer? A standard stock size with custom printing keeps you above the line without paying for new tooling.

Can I order below the MOQ?+

Yes — at lower quantities the customization is simply lighter. Instead of a full custom offset print, small runs are decorated with a digitally printed lid, or supplied as a plain (unprinted) tin. So you can order well below the usual MOQ; you just trade some of the full-custom finish for a smaller, more flexible run.

How is pricing worked out?+

Three things mainly drive the price: the tin’s size and shape, the order quantity, and the finishing — number of print colours, embossing, window cutting and special inks. New tooling, if your shape needs it, is a one-time cost. We break all of this down clearly in your quote, so there are no surprises.

Can you handle repeat orders?+

Yes, and they’re faster. Once a design is in production we keep your printing plates and any custom tooling on file, so reorders skip setup and move straight to scheduling.

Shapes, tooling & sizes

Can you produce a fully custom shape?+

Yes. We cut our own dies in-house, so bespoke shapes are possible above MOQ — round, square, rectangular, oval, hexagon, octagon, heart and fully custom forms, including embossed lids. A brand-new shape becomes worthwhile once your volume justifies the one-time tooling.

Is there a tooling fee, and who owns the tooling?+

For a new custom shape there is a one-time tooling fee, quoted upfront. The mould is then dedicated to your product and used for your orders and reorders — but it is built and kept in-house and remains Masaş’s property. Standard stock shapes need no new tooling.

What sizes can you make?+

A wide range: round tins from roughly Ø41 mm up to Ø230 mm, plus square, rectangular, oval, hexagon and tray formats in many heights. If you have a target capacity or dimension, send it and we’ll match the nearest size or tool a new one.

Can you add a window, embossing or a special lid?+

Yes — crystal-clear window cutting in lids or bodies, raised or recessed embossing and deboss, and lid styles from slip-on and hinged to fully shaped. These are decided together with your design.

Printing, artwork & finishes

Can you match my brand colours and artwork?+

Yes. We offset-print in CMYK plus dedicated Pantone spot colours for shades that can’t be compromised. Colour on metal reads differently from paper, so we confirm final colour on the actual tinplate — not just on a screen.

What artwork files do you need?+

Send print-ready vector artwork (AI, EPS or PDF) placed on our dieline template, which we provide for your chosen shape. No artwork yet? Our in-house design team can build it from your brand assets or a rough brief.

Can you print several language or market variants?+

Yes. We regularly print the same tin in multiple language and market versions, and can plan several designs within one production run so your ranges stay consistent.

What finishes do you offer?+

Full-colour offset litho, metallic and pearlescent inks for gold, silver and pearl effects, matte and gloss varnish, embossing and deboss, window cutting, and food-safe interior lacquer — all produced under one roof.

Materials & food safety

Are your tins food-safe?+

Yes. We apply food-grade interior lacquers under ISO 22000 food-safety management, suitable for direct food contact. The right lining depends on what goes inside — for example dry or oily products — so we confirm your fill before tooling and specify the correct coating for your product and market.

What are the tins made of?+

Decorative tinplate — food-grade steel coated with a fine layer of tin — chosen for its strength, premium feel and printability. It’s rigid, protects what’s inside, and keeps its finish for years.

Are the tins recyclable?+

Yes. Tinplate is widely recyclable and recovered in standard metal streams, and a decorative tin is usually kept and reused long after the product inside is gone — a quietly sustainable choice next to single-use packaging.

Will a tin protect my product?+

Yes. Rigid tinplate stands up to crushing and impact far better than carton, so it keeps its shape and protects what’s inside on the shelf and in transit, and the fitted lid keeps everything secure.

Samples, lead time & delivery

Do you provide samples?+

Yes. We send a free sample tin from pieces we’ve already produced, so you can hold the real product and judge the form, finish, weight and closing action before you commit. The sample itself is free — you only cover the courier / shipping cost to your address.

What are your lead times?+

Lead time depends on whether new tooling is needed and on run size. We confirm a clear production schedule alongside your quote, so you know the timeline before you commit.

Do you ship internationally and to the US?+

Yes. Masaş exports decorative tins to 50+ countries, including the United States, and can advise on the food-contact documentation your market needs.
