Minimum order quantities and how they scale
Custom-printed tin box runs start at 5,000 to 25,000 pieces per design and size, and size sets the direction: large tins sit near 5,000, while small tins usually need 20,000 to 25,000, because many more small tins come off a single sheet of tinplate and a short run of them never repays the setup. Ordering on a mould we already hold removes the tooling charge and around eight weeks of lead time, but it does not lower the print minimum — printed tins are made to order, and only plain, unprinted tins are sold in genuinely small quantities. Because tooling is built in-house, the step from an existing shape to a new die for future volume growth doesn't require switching suppliers or re-qualifying a new factory.
Unit economics at scale
Per-unit cost in tinplate packaging is driven largely by run length: longer runs spread tooling and setup costs over more units, and print efficiency improves once a press is running at full production speed. Longer runs therefore quote better per piece than minimum-order runs, particularly on multi-colour offset print work, but the size of that difference belongs to the specific job rather than to a published tier. Getting an accurate number requires the actual specification — shape, size, wall gauge, print coverage and lid type all move the calculation, which is why wholesale quotes are built per project rather than from a flat price list.
Lead times for bulk production
Bulk orders move through tooling (for new shapes), sheet printing, coating and forming, then packing for freight. New tooling takes roughly eight weeks, followed by four to six weeks of production — about twelve to fourteen weeks in total. On a mould we already hold, the same order runs in four to six weeks, since the die, print plates and colour calibration are already established. Buyers working to a launch date or retail shelf window should also plan the approval step realistically: on new tooling there is no physical first sample. The customer approves a drawing, and the first physical tin is the first production run. A physical sample can only come from a mould we already hold.

Distributors reselling into multiple markets and co-packers filling tins as part of a larger production line have different requirements than a single brand ordering for its own use — split shipments, private-label variants, or coordinating delivery against a filling schedule that isn't set by the tin supplier.
