Formats that suit a biscuit range
Round assortment tins are the traditional answer for a mixed selection: one deep tin, a slip-on lid, and enough floor area for the pieces to sit in one or two layers. Rectangular and square formats suit shortbread, wafer and single-variety ranges, where the biscuit shape decides the footprint rather than the other way round. Hinged lids make a tin that gets opened and closed daily feel deliberate; window and crystal lids let a decorated biscuit sell itself on the shelf. If none of the shapes we already hold fits the range, we cut new tooling in our own tool room.
What the tin protects against, and what it does not
Rigid tinplate is the reason biscuits arrive whole: it takes the crush that a carton passes straight through to the product, and it blocks light entirely. The fitted lid keeps dust, handling and everyday humidity out of an opened pack far better than a folded carton flap. What a decorative tin does not do is seal — it is not airtight. For a long ambient shelf life the barrier work is done by a sealed inner pouch or by individually flow-wrapped portions, with the tin as the protective, reusable outer. Anyone who tells you a printed decorative tin is hermetic is selling you something else.
Printing a seasonal range
Biscuit tins are bought with the eyes in November and kept in the kitchen until March, so the print has to survive being handled. Artwork is offset-printed on the flat sheet in Pantone-matched colour, then protected by an overprint varnish — matte, gloss or soft-touch. Embossing and debossing are formed into the metal itself, which is how a quilted lid or an engraved crest reads as expensive rather than printed. The artwork is exclusively yours and is never used for anyone else. A repeat run with new artwork on the same mould takes the same 4–6 weeks as the first one, with no tooling involved.
Planning a Christmas or seasonal launch backwards
Seasonal biscuit ranges fail on the calendar more often than on the product. Retail wants the goods in the depot by September or October, and production runs 4–6 weeks from approved artwork on a mould we already hold. A brand-new shape adds roughly eight weeks of tooling before that — so twelve to fourteen weeks in total, and artwork has to be signed off in early summer. Sampling comes first: we send a real tin from production free of charge so you can hold the format before committing, and you cover only the courier.

What is the minimum order for custom biscuit tins?
Custom-printed runs are typically 5,000–25,000 pieces per design and size — larger assortment tins at the lower end. Below that, the printing plates and press setup dominate the unit price. Plain, unprinted tins on a mould we already hold can be supplied in smaller quantities; printed tins are always made to order, because we hold moulds rather than finished printed stock.
Can you make large round or rectangular assortment tins?
Yes, and both are among the formats we tool most often. Where a shape already exists in our mould library there is no tooling charge and no eight-week tooling wait; where it does not, our own tool room cuts it. The mould is built and kept at our factory in İstanbul — your artwork is exclusive to you, the shape is not unless that is agreed separately.
How long do biscuits stay crisp in a tin?
The tin does the mechanical and light protection; it does not do the moisture barrier, because a decorative tin is not airtight. Crispness over a long ambient shelf life comes from a sealed inner pouch or individually flow-wrapped portions inside the tin. Once a household opens it, the fitted lid keeps biscuits noticeably better than a carton — which is why the tin stays in the kitchen long after the biscuits are gone.
When do I need to order for a Christmas range?
Work backwards from the depot date. Production is 4–6 weeks from approved artwork on a mould we already hold, so a September delivery means artwork approved by late July. If the range needs a brand-new shape, add roughly eight weeks of tooling on top — twelve to fourteen weeks in total, which puts artwork approval in early summer. Repeat seasons on the same mould are the short path.
Can I see a real biscuit tin before ordering?
Yes. We send an existing tin from production free of charge and you cover only the courier. It will not carry your artwork — it is a sample of the format, the metal and the build quality, which is what you actually need to judge before committing to a run of several thousand.
